Once STACK IQ is connected, it works the same way in ChatGPT and Claude. This article covers what STACK IQ can do, organized by area of STACK.

• Some actions require approval before STACK IQ applies a change in STACK.
• AI-generated responses and proposed changes should always be reviewed for accuracy.
• STACK IQ creates, edits, and organizes – it never deletes projects, takeoffs, tags, or labels. Deletion stays a manual action inside STACK Takeoff & Estimate.
• STACK IQ is included with active, paid STACK subscriptions. It isn't available on free or trial accounts yet.

Viewing STACK and an AI Assistant Side by Side

STACK IQ is easier to use when STACK and ChatGPT or Claude are visible at the same time. This makes it possible to watch each change land in STACK as soon as it's approved, without switching back and forth between windows.

1. Open STACK in one Chrome window.
2. Right click on the STACK tab.
3. Select Add Tab to New Split View.
4. Search Claude or ChatGPT.
5. Open Claude or ChatGPT.

Once both windows are in place, prompts entered in ChatGPT or Claude produce results that appear in STACK without switching windows.

Takeoffs

The fastest way to see STACK IQ work is with a spreadsheet. Given takeoff names, descriptions, measurement types, and tags, STACK IQ builds the full set in a single conversation – work that would normally take an afternoon.

STACK IQ can also:

• Create a single takeoff by name and measurement type (count, linear, area, volume, or pitched).
• Find takeoffs by name, description, type, or tag.
• Bulk-edit takeoff names and descriptions – useful for cleaning up typos or standardizing naming across projects.
• Bulk-edit takeoff style, including color, line weight, grid settings, fill, and symbol.

NOTE
Items and assemblies can't be attached to a takeoff at the moment STACK IQ creates it. They can be added in STACK Takeoff & Estimate once the takeoff exists.

AI PROMPT
Build takeoffs in the [project name] project from the attached spreadsheet, using the names, descriptions, measurement types, and tags provided.

AI PROMPT
List all takeoffs in the [project name] project and flag near-duplicate or inconsistent descriptions.

Projects

STACK IQ can set up a project using the same fields completed manually, including company-specific project types and statuses.

STACK IQ can also:

• Create a new project with the full setup field set.
• Edit an existing project's settings.
• Create a project directly from an existing source, such as an email thread, a bid invite, a portal listing, or a document. STACK IQ reads the source, proposes the project shape, and creates the project once confirmed.

Read this bid invite and set up a project in STACK, including name, address, bid date, and project type.

AI PROMPT
Update the bid date on the [project name] project to [date].

Tags and Labels

STACK IQ can:

• Create a tag group and its values inside a project, then assign them to takeoffs, all in one conversation.
• Rename tag groups and values in a project.
• Create tags in a company library and assign them to library takeoffs.
• Bring existing company label groups into a project.

AI PROMPT
In the [project name] project, create a Phase tag with values 1 through 4, then tag every wall takeoff as Phase 1.

Libraries

STACK IQ can:

• Search library takeoffs by type, tag, or name.
• Create and edit library takeoffs.
• Import library takeoffs into a project, or copy project takeoffs up to a library.

NOTE
Items and assemblies already attached to a takeoff travel with it when it moves between a library and a project, in both directions. The limit on attaching items and assemblies only applies when STACK IQ creates a brand-new takeoff.

AI PROMPT
Import the Interior Finishes library takeoffs into the [project name] project.

Estimate

STACK IQ can read estimate data and answer questions about it, such as which divisions look light or how a bid compares to a previous one.

IMPORTANT
Estimate data reflects a snapshot taken at a specific point in time, not a live view of the Estimate Worksheet. Every snapshot has a timestamp – ask STACK IQ when the snapshot was taken to confirm how current the information is. Estimate access is read-only today.

AI PROMPT
Show the estimate worksheet for the [project name] project by cost type, and identify which divisions look light compared to the [project name] project. Include the snapshot date and time.

STACK IQ Current Limitations

STACK IQ is still expanding. It doesn't currently:

• Add or remove items or assemblies on an existing takeoff, or set item order or formulas.
• Manage items or assemblies in a company library.
• Write values back to an estimate, such as unit costs, waste percentage, or markup.
• Copy a takeoff within a project while keeping its items and assemblies attached.
• Answer questions about the content of plans.
• List or edit sheets and plans.
• Create new label definitions inside a project.
• Work with Typicals.

What STACK IQ Never Does

Some things are always handled in STACK Takeoff & Estimate by design:

• Uploading plans, organizing sheets, and setting scale.
• Drawing or editing any measurement on a plan – every counted, traced, or measured geometry is drawn by a person, or by AI Takeoff, a separate feature from STACK IQ.
• Generating or printing proposals and bid output.
