You can now set default values directly in an assembly definition, for both Item Groups and Custom Variables. When the assembly is attached to a takeoff, those defaults come along pre-filled — ready to use, and still easy to override for that specific attach.
What to Know
- Defaults are set once, on the assembly itself — they apply automatically every time that assembly is attached to a takeoff.
- Each Item Group can have a default option, or no default at all — it's optional.
- Custom Variables can each have a default input value.
- Defaults are a starting point, not a lock — you can still change the Item Group selection or Custom Variable value on any individual attach.
NOTE
Changing an assembly's default value does not retroactively change takeoffs the assembly is already attached to — defaults only apply going forward, to new attaches.
Set a Default for an Item Group
- Open the assembly and go to the Item Groups section.
- In the Default column, select the option you want to use as the default for that group.
- Leave no option selected if you don't want a default for that group.
Set a Default for a Custom Variable
- Open the assembly and go to the item's Custom Variables.
- Enter the value you want to use as the default for each variable.
- Click Save.
See It on a Takeoff
When the assembly is attached to a takeoff, the Item Group selections and Custom Variable values you set as defaults are automatically applied — no need to re-select or re-enter them.
