The Item Information Panel displays an Item's details, units, coverage rate, source Library, and costs directly in the Takeoff, without opening the Library. For Items attached through an Assembly, the panel also shows the Item Group selection and any formula driving the Item quantity, and lets you change them for the project.
Key Information
- The panel opens on the right side of the Takeoff when you click an Item in the Takeoff Tree.
- Expanding the Takeoff Tree expands all the way down to individual Items, so Items can be reached without expanding each Assembly separately.
- Default Unit Cost (the cost stored on the Item in its Library) and Estimate Unit Cost (the cost in use in the Estimate) are both shown, for every Cost Type on the Item.
- What appears in the panel depends on how the Item is attached. Items attached through an Assembly also show the Assembly and, where applicable, an Item Group selection and a formula.
- A formula that comes from an Assembly is read-only in the panel, but its variables can be edited for the project.
- A formula on a directly attached Item can be edited in the panel.
- Library access is not required to view Item information in the panel.
Open the Item Information Panel
- Go to the PLANS & TAKEOFFS section of the project.
- Select the Takeoffs tab.
- Select the takeoff containing the Item.
- Expand the takeoff in the Takeoff Tree to display its Items.
- Click the Item icon to the left of the Item name to open the Item Information Panel.
The Item Information Panel opens on the right, with the Item name at the top. - Click X at the top right of the panel to close it.
TIP
Use the expand/collapse control next to the Takeoff column heading to expand or collapse the whole tree at once, all the way down to the Item level.
Item Details and Costs
The panel lists the following information for the selected Item:
- Assembly: The Assembly the Item came from. Click the open icon next to the Assembly name to open that Assembly. (Not shown for directly attached Items.)
- Measured Unit: The unit used to measure the Item.
- Purchase Unit: The unit used to purchase the Item.
- Coverage Rate: The conversion between the measured unit and the purchase unit.
- Library: the Library the Item comes from.
- Cost Type: each Cost Type applied to the Item, with its own Default Unit Cost and Estimate Unit Cost below it.
- Open in Library: opens the Item in its Library.
NOTE
An Item with multiple Cost Types lists each Cost Type separately, allowing users to compare its Estimate Unit Cost with its Default Unit Cost from the Library at a glance.
Change an Item Group Selection
When the selected Item is the current selection for an Item Group on the Assembly, the Item Group's name appears below the cost information with a dropdown showing the selected option.
- Click the Item in the Takeoff Tree to open the Item Information Panel.
- Click the dropdown below the Item Group name.
- Type in the Search field to filter the options, or scroll the list.
- Select the option you want.
Select None to leave the Item Group unselected.
NOTE
The option set as the Assembly's default is marked Default in the list.
View a Formula and Edit Its Variables
When the Item's quantity is driven by a formula that comes from an Assembly, the panel shows the formula and the variables it uses.
- Click the Item in the Takeoff Tree to open the Item Information Panel.
- Review the formula under Formula.
- Under Variables, enter a new value for the variable you want to change.
- Click Save.
- If the variable is shared with other Items in the Assembly, the Update shared values window opens and lists each Item that uses it. Click Save to apply the change to every Item listed, or Cancel to discard it.
IMPORTANT
A formula that comes from an Assembly cannot be edited in the panel, only its variables can. Variable changes made here apply within the project.
Edit a Formula on a Directly Attached Item
An Item attached directly to a takeoff, rather than through an Assembly, shows its formula in an editable field.
- Click the directly attached Item in the Takeoff Tree to open the Item Information Panel.
- Click in the Formula field.
- Edit the formula.
- Press Enter to save.
