The Takeoff Tree shows the quantity you measured for each takeoff. Show Purchase Quantities adds a second layer to that view: the purchase quantity of every Item attached to your takeoffs, pulled from the project's Primary estimate, shown right beside the Item in the same tree. There is no need to cross-reference the Estimate Worksheet to see how much of each material or labor Item the takeoff actually calls for.
Key Information
- Show Purchase Quantities is an option in the Takeoff Tree display menu and is turned off by default.
- Quantities appear in the Qty column on each Item row, in that Item's purchase unit of measure (for example Ea, Box, Gal, or Hours).
- Quantities are shown for Items attached directly to a takeoff and for Items contained within an assembly.
- Assembly rows themselves do not display a quantity, only the Items within them do.
- Takeoff rows continue to display the measured takeoff quantity.
- The Item quantities come from the Primary estimate, so there is no separate calculation to reconcile.
Overview
- Go to the PLANS & TAKEOFFS section of the project.
- Locate the Takeoff Tree in the left panel.
- Click the three dots to the right of the Group by field.
- Select Show Purchase Quantities.
NOTE
The same menu also controls Show Items and Assemblies, Show Required Items, Show Item Group Items, and Show 'None' Rows. Show Purchase Quantities works alongside these options, Items must be visible in the tree for their quantities to display.
Reading the Quantities
- Each Item row displays its purchase quantity and purchase unit of measure in the Qty column.
- The unit shown is the Item's own purchase unit, which is often different from the takeoff's measurement unit. A takeoff measured in SF can carry Items counted in Box, Gal, or Hours.
- Items contained within an assembly display their own quantities. The assembly row above them does not.
- The takeoff row displays the measured quantity, while the Item rows display the purchased quantities.
TIP
Because these quantities are read from the Primary estimate, changes made to it, such as editing an Item’s quantity or rate, are reflected in the Takeoff Tree.
