Lineal Measurement Conundrum

Posted by: craig.parker

I’m trying to get a measurement for ceiling strapping, but not sure how to build the assembly. I was thinking of creating a new variable [length] and using it in an assembly (16” on-center rows):

[MeasuredLinear].75[length]*[length]

It works, but for the whole takeoff. I need it to work per measurement, like when I am doing a pitched area. I’m not sure how to build that. Lemme see if this picture helps explain…

#1: I make a measurement 4’-5 5/8”, then get prompted (and enter 11’-8 1/4”).

#2: I measure again (that one ended up being 3’-10”, but I forgot the dimension line in the screenshot) and get another prompt where I enter 16’-5 5/8”.

#3: Measure again, and get another prompt where I enter 11’-8 1/4”

Using Bedroom 1 here as an example.

    1. Create an area take off Ex. “Bedroom 1 SF”
    2. Before doing the area take off, scroll down in the take off settings (in the take off side bar) and select the grid spacing you want under Appearance>Grid Pattern.  This looks like you only want strapping running one direction so either turn on Horizontal or Vertical and define your OC spacing.
    3. Select the polygon icon for the take off and use the shift key to toggle vertical/horizontal lock on the take off cursor (this ensures your take off corners are 90 degrees).
    4. Create an area take off by tracing the lines around the perimeter of the room and the little window bump out. (Pro tip: in setting enable cursor cross hairs)
    5. Finish the take off and hit escape to exit the tool. Select the take off and then on the right toolbar mouse over “Edit” to open the menu and then select “Explode Area”.
    6. Drop down the line item for the grid lines and either select a take off to attach it to or create a new one.

-- The question isn't whether or not we can build it. The question is whether or not you want to pay for it.
