Creating, and Using “Takeoffs”
STACK provides 9 different “Takeoff” types to be used for measuring construction elements within plans. You can create a Takeoff from the “Plans & Takeoffs” section of any project.
If you want cost data associated with the measurements you place using that takeoff, you will need to attach “Items”, and/or “Assemblies” to it (Click here to learn more about Items and Assemblies).
NOTE: When adding Items or Assemblies to a Takeoff their unit of measure must match the unit of measure output for the Takeoff measurement type.* For example, an Item with a "lin ft" unit of measure can be added to a takeoff with a "Linear" measurement type, but cannot be added to a Takeoff with a "Count" measurement type.
If you try adding an Item/Assembly with an incompatible unit of measure to a Takeoff, you will not see that Item/Assembly appear when you search for it in the "Add Items & Assemblies" menu.
Each Takeoff type is designed to allow you to measure a different type of construction element. Below is a list of the different Takeoff types you can create; click on any of them to review a short training video on how to use that type of Takeoff.
- Area - Floors, ceilings, elevation view of a building, etc.
- Linear - Baseboard, wire, PVC, etc.
- Count - Outlets, fire alarms, doors, etc.
- Linear with Drop - Electrical wire that drops down 6 feet to an outlet
- Pitched Area - Sloped roof from an aerial view
- Pitched Linear - Hip on a sloped roof from an aerial view
- Surface Area - Painted walls, wallpaper, drywall, etc.
- Volume 2D - Concrete slab, parking lot, etc.
- Volume 3D - Concrete footer or wall, etc.
