How to Use Floor Plan AI with Surface Area Takeoffs

STACK_Jordan

A very common workflow I’ve noticed a lot of STACK Users with our Floorplan Ai ask about is how to get surface area measurements from the linear foot takeoffs our Ai provides. Below is a step by step tutorial on how to convert the linear foot measurements produced by our Ai into Surface Area measurements to account for your wall height.

After using Floor Plan Ai:

  • Hide any takeoffs you dont want changed by clicking the eyeball icon to the left of the takeoff list.
  • Navigate to the right hand toolbar and hover over the Edit menu (The cursor icon, second from the top on the toolbar).
  • Click “Multiselect”
  • Highlight all takeoffs you intend to change by clicking once then dragging your mouse so the blue perforated line encompasses those measurements, then click again to complete.
  • Once you’ve highlighted the takeoffs, without clicking again yet, go back to the toolbar to the same dropdown menu, this time you will click on Change Takeoff.
  • After the pop-up menu appears, click the dropdown box below the word “To” and select “New Takeoff.”
  • From here, you’ll give the takeoff a name, then under “Takeoff Type” select Surface Area.
  • You’ll then be prompted to input the height, after the height is determined, click the green “Change” button.

That’s it! You’ll see the new takeoff on your list as well as the the old takeoff that our Ai produced initially. From there you can attach any items and assemblies or labels/tags as needed.
