Editing Assemblies

If I use an assembly in an estimate, and then edit or delete the assembly in our database, will it affect any estimates that used that assembly?

  • Good Day Walter,

Items and Assemblies are ‘global’ features in Stack.  Today, users can add any Item to any Assembly and add that Assembly to a Takeoff in any Project and see quantities of those Items in Reports and Estimates.  They are global things.

That said, the inverse is also true.  If you remove an Item from an Assembly, or you change it's formula in the Assembly, you are immediately, and directly affecting anywhere that Assembly will be used in the future, and anywhere it was ever used in the past - because that it a global change.

If you want to make changes to your Items or Assemblies, we recommend copying it, retiring the old one and making your changes in the new one.  This will protect any Project and Estimate where that Item or Assembly was previously used.

    I hope this helps.
