STACK counts the vertices (corners and turns) and segments (the runs between them) on every measurement. You can see both counts when you hover over a measurement on the plan, add them as columns in your Takeoff Reports, and use them in Item Formulas to quantify per-corner or per-run materials such as posts, brackets, joints, and trim.
What to Know
- Vertex Count is the number of corners or turns in a measurement. Segment Count is the number of runs between them.
- An open line has one fewer segment than vertices. For example, a linear measurement with 4 vertices has 3 segments. A closed shape has one segment per corner. For example, an area with 6 vertices has 6 segments.
- An arc or a circle counts as 1 segment. A count measurement has 0 segments.
- Use the [MeasuredVertices] and [MeasuredSegments] variables in any Item Formula, whether the Item is in an assembly or attached directly to a takeoff.
- Vertex Count and Segment Count are also available as columns in the Estimate Worksheet.
View Vertex and Segment Counts on the Plan
- Open a plan from Plans & Takeoffs.
- Hover over a measurement. The pop-up shows the Vertex Count and Segment Count along with the measurement's other quantities.
Show Vertex and Segment Counts in Reports
- Click Reports in the project menu.
- Under Takeoff Reports, select a report, such as Takeoff Quantity.
- Click Columns and turn on Vertex Count and Segment Count.
Use Vertices and Segments in an Item Formula
- Open the formula for an Item in an assembly, or for an Item attached directly to a takeoff.
- Type [Measured to see the list of takeoff variables, then select [MeasuredVertices] or [MeasuredSegments].
- Complete the formula and press Enter to save it.
TIP
Use [MeasuredVertices] for materials that occur at every corner, such as an extra stud at each wall corner or bracing at each fence corner. Use [MeasuredSegments] for materials that occur once per run, such as end pieces or trim.
